The NZSOLD Young Professionals Group (YPG) is hosting a Climate Change and Dams webinar. This free online event provides an opportunity for young professionals, researchers, and industry practitioners to share their experience and knowledge with young professionals in the dams industry on climate change research and innovations, and how it is being used in the dam industry to assess and mitigate risks.

The webinar is targeted to Young Professionals, but open to NZSOLD and ANCOLD members and non-members. We will be using Adobe Connect so please ensure you have this downloaded/ updated prior to the webinar.

The webinar will explore the following questions:

  • What research is being done in New Zealand and around the world to understand the impact of climate change for dams?
  • What are the potential climate change risks (threats and opportunities) for dams and for the dams industry? What methodologies and tools are used for this risk assessment?
  • What steps are being taken or need to be taken for climate change adaptation to ensure dams are resilient against future climate change impacts?

We have an exciting line-up of presentations, including:

  • An introduction to the national climate change research project (Deep South Challenge),
  • How climate change can be incorporated into flood risks,
  • Tools and methods used to assess climate change risks,
  • Gaps in knowledge and challenges relating to this topic, and
  • What international entities are doing to resolve these issues, and
  • An international case study on climate change projection and its impacts on reservoir flood inflows.
