ANCOLD 2021 Conference – Cancelled
Dear ANCOLD Members, Associates and Industry colleagues,
As everyone is well aware, COVID-19 has created great uncertainty in many aspects of our daily lives. ANCOLD activities have also been disrupted. With lockdowns current in several states and travel restrictions between states likely to persist for some time the Executive has decided to cancel the face-to-face ANCOLD conference that was to be held in Perth in November. This is regrettable but given the uncertain situation is a necessary decision.
The networking and sharing of information enabled by the conference is an important part of ANCOLD. However, it is not practical to host a conference in Perth this year, particularly given the strict border controls implemented by the Western Australian government.
Sharing of technical information and experiences remains a core part of ANCOLD’s activities. In lieu of the conference we are planning for a virtual event to be held around the same time the conference was scheduled. The format is being developed but will facilitate the presentation of technical papers and accompanying question and answer sessions with paper authors. Details will be circulated as planning progresses.
We understand the importance of networking across the industry and the opportunity missed with the annual conference again not proceeding. The Executive is considering options for local networking opportunities within each state and how these might occur in parallel with the virtual technical sessions.
For those that have already registered for the conference, the conference organisers will be in contact to arrange refunds.
On behalf of the Executive, I extend my sincere thanks to Louise Thomas and the other members of the Perth local organising committee for their efforts preparing for the conference both last year and again in 2021. The Committee has put in significant time over an extended period. While it is disappointing that this activity cannot be rewarded with a successful conference, I am sure that our members are grateful for their efforts nonetheless.
The Annual General Meeting was also to be held in Perth in conjunction with the conference. This will now be held as a virtual meeting. Details will be provided once arrangements are progressed.
I thank members for their understanding and trust that people will participate in the virtual sessions later in the year.
Stay safe everyone.
