The country’s need torehabilitate and upgrade their approximately 50,000 dams (nearly 600 are largedams) is the reason behind this annual series. India dams practice has been influenced by England and France engineeringfor decades and there is a strong interest to involve more participation fromU.S. engineering firms. The conference organizers are interested in havingattendees and presenters from the US. They perceive the U.S. dams practice asbeing innovative in rehabilitation and “smart dam” upgrades.
